Debitel has lowered the entry fee for DMB/DAB enjoyment.

With the arrival of the LG V 9000 mobile phone in Germany, Debitel had lowered the entry conditions for DMB enjoyment until 31.12.2006: The mobile phone itself is available for as little as EUR 99 if appropriate contracts are concluded and the TV channels may be used free of charge for the first three months. Subsequently the TV package will then only cost EUR 4.95 instead of the original EUR 9.95 per month usage fee. However, the DAB channels which can be received using the mobile phones will, as a rule, continue to be used free of charge. This free of charge service has now been extended to 6 months and the Samsung SGH-P900 will be offered on the Vario 0 tariff for EUR 1.

You can find further information about the Debitel conditions at www.debitel.de.

DMB Transmission Capacity for mobile TV in Hessen goes to "Mobiles Fernsehen Deutschland"

The Düsseldorf-based company "Mobiles Fernsehen Deutschland GmbH" (MFD) is to be allocated DMB-standard digital transmission capacity, which is required to operate "mobile TV". This was decided at today's meeting of the Landesanstalt für privaten Rundfunk (State Institution for Private Broadcasting - LPR Hessen).

MFD's channel bouquet is to consist of up to four television and two radio channels. The company plans to broadcast the news channel N24. In the comedy and entertainment field it will collaborate with ProSiebenSat1Medien AG. A "young generation" music channel with program support from MTV is also planned. Furthermore, there is an option to broadcast the ZDF program on an additional channel. "BigFM2see," a nationwide channel supplemented by visual items, and "Regiocast Digital," a spoken-word channel, are to be offered in the audio field. With this package of channels MFD would meet the requirement for a range made up largely of news, culture and sport.

Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) is an international broadcasting standard for the reception of television, sound broadcasting and media services on mobile receivers such as mobile phones.

The transmission capacity is allocated via a nationally coordinated tender procedure involving all participating State Regulatory Authorities for Broadcasting; the allocation is initially valid for three years. The primary aim of this trial phase will be to determine the technical and economic feasibility and user acceptance of mobile TV. In time for the FIFA World Cup 2006, the company is planning to launch transmissions from the World Cup venues.
